Churchill Square, Maidstone

Mecserve was appointed to design the new building services for the refurbishment of Building No. 20 as well as detailing the renewal of the infrastructure to all mains services on the site.

The refurbishment of Building 20 was the first stage of the redevelopment to the existing buildings at Churchill Square.

The six existing two-storey brick constructed ‘H’ blocks, built to provide accommodation for the RAF when the site was part of the original West Malling Airfield – together with Building No.40 (at the head of the square) – were refurbished to provide new office accommodation across 12,900 ft².

Mechanical services featured a gas-fired, low temperature, hot water heating system serving wall-mounted radiators with mechanical ventilation and internal drainage for ancillary accommodation.

Electrical services consisted of sub main distribution providing an individual electricity service to each tenant’s accommodation, lighting using modular fluorescent luminaires to CIBSE LG3 requirements, small power to each tenancy distributed via a skirting trunking system, automatic fire detection throughout and an audio door entry system.
